Non-conformity
Even in a society in which every woman was channelled into just one narrow lifestyle: virginity until entering monogamous, heterosexual marriage and uncontrolled childbearing, some women managed to escape from this restrictive destiny, and I have decided for expediency to categorise them all under 'non-conformity'. They include feminists, cross-dressers, adulteresses, courtesans, lesbians and women who lived with men to whom they were not married, and women who chose to have children out of wedlock.
