SOME EXCERPTS FROM THE BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE WEBSITE

1950
The first female BTP Sergeants were appointed when WPCs SNELL (Paddington) and BARRETT (Liverpool Street) were promoted.

1965
The "Daily Mirror" reports that the 150 Railway Policewomen have been warned against wearing black bras under their uniforms. This follows a new issue of "fine non-iron poplin blouses". A spokesman says "the girls would attract more attention than they do already " and anyone ignoring the order would be "quickly pulled into line by her sergeant"

1976
The Sex Discrimination Act is passed putting woman on an equal footing with men.
Some Policewomen do not like this and resign as they are forced to work shifts.
